RLS delivers information sessions to university students

Lucy Alper, RLS Athens Project Coordinator and Legal Caseworker, recently provided information sessions to volunteers and students from different universities.

She spoke with students from the University of Florida and Penn State University, in collaboration with Global Brigades Greece, where the students volunteer. She also spent time with two groups of students from the School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh.

In these sessions, Lucy focused on the context in Greece, the asylum procedure, and the conditions for refugees in Greece.

Feedback from these sessions:

“I thought the session with Lucy was very informative. I liked how she brought real world examples to explain how she is able to help refugees.” - Student at Penn State University

“The conversation helped me understand how the country has viewed the refugee situation in recent years and provided a real-world example of how a person originally from outside of Greece can contribute.” - Student at the University of Florida

“Lucy really helped our group to put the rights of asylum seekers and refugees into political context – a context they could also relate to the UK border regime, and connect to a number of scales at the level of the EU, Greece, and Athens in particular. Lucy was also great at answering questions and our students all spoke of how insightful and thought provoking they found this session. The work RLS do is inspiring and we are grateful for the time we get to engage with these issues.” - Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh
