In 2017, a group of UK asylum lawyers travelled to Greece. We were there to provide legal advice and information for people fleeing persecution and violence.
Demand for our support went beyond what we could offer. There was an acute lack of free legal advice available for people seeking asylum. We founded Refugee Legal Support to start meeting that demand.
Since then, the need has only grown. The availability of safe and legal routes has narrowed and violence and persecution continue to force people from their homes. RLS has grown too. From our first projects in Athens, we’ve expanded to the UK and we continue to help clients navigate complex legal environments in their bids to reach safety.
Refugee Legal Support works in solidarity with people who migrate. We advocate for the promotion and protection of people’s rights throughout the migration process.
We offer clients legal support, casework, strategic litigation, outreach, training and partnerships. Our approach is inclusive, sustainable and participatory. Our work is directly informed by those with lived migration experience.
We stand with anyone migrating or seeking asylum. We’re committed to ensuring everyone is able to exercise their legal rights fully and fairly.
We strive to eradicate entrenched inequalities, racism and all forms of discrimination and violence that force people to migrate. We call for an end to hostile immigration policies and systems that prevent people from migrating safely.
Thanks to the generosity of our partners and supporters, we can provide high-quality legal assistance and representation to people who need it, free-of-charge and regardless of immigration status.
