Recent training sessions with organisations in Greece

We regularly hold training sessions and workshops for organisations in the sector. Sharing our legal expertise and knowledge is an important part of our work, and it helps to strengthen the sector overall.

RLS’s Lucy Alper, Project Coordinator and Legal Caseworker, has recently delivered several training sessions for organisations in Greece.

Khora Asylum Support Team (KAST)

KAST are a team of volunteers who offer information and legal support to people navigating the Greek asylum system. They also assist people trying to access other services in Athens, such as social services, basic needs and health care.

Lucy’s most recent trainings with KAST have focused on the online applications that can be made via the Ministry for Migration and Asylum website.

Lucy received very positive feedback from attendees:

The session with Lucy from RLS was really instructive and useful. It even helped me to understand how to lead with cases I was stuck with!”

“We found the training really informative and relevant to our work, and really appreciated how open you were to our questions and for facilitating a space for discussion.”

ROSA

ROSA is a women’s organisation founded in Germany, focused on creating a safer space for women and children outside camps north of Athens. They offer a free female doctor, distribution of hygiene, sanitary and baby items, and activities and games.

Lucy meets with ROSA on a regular basis, and the training sessions focus on law, procedure and context in Greece.

Lucy also received positive feedback for this session, and attendees highlighted how Lucy’s legal expertise has helped with their work:

“Lucy shares extremely helpful, well structured and understandably explained legal knowledge on a regular basis. This supports our work at ROSA e.V. insofar as that we can understand the situation at the camps more thoroughly and provide more suitable spaces and conversations and to meet the women at the camps where they are. Lucy has a particularly personal and kind way to connect with people which enriches any situation.”

“Thanks a lot for taking the time to do the workshop! I really liked that it was held in a rather informal atmosphere which made it easy to ask questions, but all the same it was very well structured. I also really appreciated the differentiation between what's the law and what's actually done. Thank you!”

“The workshop is super important and has to stay a mandatory and regular part of ROSA. Lucy explained everything very well and created a good atmosphere to learn and ask questions. She adapted very well to our group and our questions and answered them patiently. Thanks!”
